Art Bridges Collection

The Art Bridges Collection represents an expanding vision of American art from the 19th century to present day and encompasses multiple media and voices.

About

The Art Bridges Collection contains over 200 artworks that are available for loan to museums across the United States. We believe art is meant to be seen, but we also recognize that there are many barriers to borrowing works of art, one of the largest being financial. For this reason, we ensure that loans from our collection are free of cost to borrowing venues.

Goals

  • 01.

Eliminate the financial and strategic barriers

    of borrowing artworks

  • 02.

    Increase the diversity

    of artworks at museums

  • 03.

    Fill the gaps

    in museum collections

  • 04.

    Interpret historical works

    in new and innovative ways

  • 05.

    Foster community engagement

and help borrowing venues attract new audiences

How It Works

We work closely with our partner museums to share art and increase accessibility. A partnership with us typically begins by having a conversation with our Curatorial team. At this time, a partner museum can request specific works, or we can offer suggestions for thematically relevant art. Once availability is confirmed, a partner museum submits an application. Upon approval, we’ll discuss next steps, including an opportunity for additional Learning & Engagement funding.

Program Support

Collection loans are available at no cost to borrowing venues.

We pay for direct costs relating to:

• Two-way shipping of artwork(s) and related logistics

• Insurance coverage (works remain under our policy)

• Crating

• Conservation

• Courier expenses, if required

• Art handlers, if required

• Additional security, if required

We also offer support with the following:

• Facility reports and environmental readings

• Contacts for appropriate artists/estates, galleries, and scholars

• Additional scholarship and access to our extensive research files

Loans from the Art Bridges Collection come at no financial burden to borrowing venues.
