Fritz Scholder
Butterfly #3

About

Luiseño artist Fritz Scholder began to use the butterfly as a subject in his paintings and prints during his time in New Mexico. The winged creature, a significant motif in Pueblo pottery, is widely recognized as a symbol of transformation and change. In Scholder’s work, it may represent the large impact New Mexico had on his career and artistic practice.
